Welcome back mateys and a Happy New Years to ye all. With the coming of 2009, it brings with it another few Sundays of joy with the final Playoffs today, followed by the Superbowl in two weeks. This year, Superbowl XLIII, will be played in Tampa Bay, Florida - home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So in honor of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a Pirates Superbowl Feast is in order!
As the host of such a party you will want to be advising your guests that in order to gain entry to the Pirate Feast, they must come dressed as Pirates and Wenches. Just to make the party a bit more mysterious, you might also ask your guests to bring a special bottle of Rum or maybe a pirate themed side dish as well.
You will also need a game plan. For our Pirate Feast we are still deciding but here are some possible ideas.
Pre-Game Appetizers and Activities
- Pirate movie or Pirate picture slide show displayed on TV along with Pirate music.
- Pirate Cocktails - Bahama Mama Pirate Punch, Rum and Coke, Rum-Runners, etc.
- Pirate Games - liars dice, cards, etc.
- Pirate Fingers in a blanket
Game-time 1st Half Food
- Pirate's Gold Chicken Wings
Half-Time Food
- Naughty Nachos Grande` (Chips, Cheese, Chili, Tomatoes & Jalapenos)
Game-time 2nd Half Food (Main Course)
- Black Beard Island Spiced Chicken with Honey Pineapple Glaze, Grilled Pineapple + Red Pepper Salsa
- Caribbean Style Rice with Black Beans
- Fried Plantains
Post Game Desert
- Shiver Me Timbers Guinness/Chocolate Brownies Drizzled with a Vanilla/Chocolate Glaze
- Rum cake or rum balls
- Fine rum and cigars
I figure with this menu, it won't matter which team wins as everybody will leave satisfied after dessert. There are dozens of Island Spiced Chicken recipes out on the Internet and some you can cook in a crock pot while some recommend grilling or baking.
Some other ideas for a Pirate Feast might be:
- Lobster Mac-n-Cheese, Filet Mignon, Baked Potato, Chocolate Tortuga Rum Cake drizzled with Cointreau
- Grilled Shrimp, Pork Tendorloin, Yukon Gold Potato or Rice, Brownies with a Vanilla Rum Icing
These all sound good and I am getting excited about the big game already. It's still a few weeks off but you have to start somewhere.
